Climate Change, we have all head about it. The heating of the Earth making the ocean rise over countries and the polar icecaps melting by the second. Global warming is and has caused many problems for humanity so far, and it is just going to create more. When will it end? Why do we keep burning greenhouse gases if they are causing so many issues? It is just a matter of time before the Earth overheats.
Did you know that around 100 million tons of CO2 are released everyday. That is insane how much Greenhouse gases are being pumped into the atmosphere everyday, and we just can’t stop. Will we have to stop burning greenhouse gases eventually?
Here is one little girl who was going to change all of that. Her name is Alice Min So Chun, and her path all started with learning origami when she was little. Challenging herself to make a origami balloon, she failed many times but kept on going. After days of trying she finally mastered the creases. Blowing into the paper balloon ever so lightly, it inflated just like a real balloon.
Many years later, Alice took her son into the doctor for a normal check-up which turned into many after she found out that he had asthma. He wasn’t the only one, many kids developed asthma due to climate change with all the pollution in the air.
Curious, Alice did some research to find out more. She learned that 6 billion people worldwide lacked access to electricity and many people in these areas had to burn gasoline to have a light source, which was making it even worst. She knew that she had to do something. So she invented the SolarPuff. Which is a foldable pillow shaped solar powered light to provide light for families in hardship. Delivering thousands of SolarPuffs around the world and changing their young lives forever.
When the kids who spent their evenings in darkness held the SolarPuff for the first time, their faces lit up with excitement. Their eyes widened as they saw light for the first in a while. Being able to breath air that was not produced by a gas that harmed the environment. Giving each child that held it a sense of hope after a natural disaster that just destroyed their home.
Alice made it so that many children around the world can feel and breath safely.
